Vent Mapping

Vent Mapping captures the Kommunal Praksis of the acoustical droning of the communal resource of air through an assemblage of multiple recordings of vents. Vents are ubiquitous to urban areas, which could be referred to as large scale communities. These vents, documented while walking through Tiohtià:ke/Montreal (Canada), also act as the acoustical backdrop to the overlooked and hidden common areas of alleyways which exist as spaces of refuse for debris, plants, humans, and other animals.
Tricia Enns
I have a situated alternative mapping practice that uses audio recordings, participatory making events, walking, debris, paper-making and inter-media approaches to draw attention to multiplicity of narratives held within the places we exist. I have a Masters in Design and Computational Arts (Concordia; 2023), delivered a performance lecture about vent tracking in the wild at UKAI’s Carnival of Shipwreck (Toronto; 2024), and exhibited and performed at the group show artch Festival (Tiohtià:ke/Montreal; 2024).
